Come Ride the Old West at our

Winter Southwest OutPost!

Welcome to our Southwest OutPost. Since 2003, we've been wintering on our 15 acres of mesquite scrub trees and yucca in Cochise County in southeastern Arizona, creating a winter horse retreat with complete training facilities.

We are located 1½ hours from Tucson, near the communities of Cochise, Sunsites, and Pearce, and not far from the old west outlaw town of Tombstone. At 4500' elevation, we are out of the extreme cactus of the Tucson area and up into the more horse-friendly grasslands country. The valley is a rural cattle ranching and farming area with pistatchio and pecan orchards nearby. The cooler mornings quickly warm up to mild winter weather in the 60's and 70's...you can't beat that for working horses!

We have miles of riding out the back gate to state and USFS land that leads right up into the historical Dragoon Mountains and the famous Apache hideout, Cochise Stronghold. These strange and breathtaking rock formations tower over hundred year-old trails that wind their way up into the mountains. After a day of riding, the spectacular view of the Stronghold at sunset is mesmerizing as you sit around the campfire.

Our rustic desert OutPost facility includes a ten-stall barn and tack room, paddocks, round pen, outdoor arena, cow corrals, our RV Barn with an Arizona Room and kitchen gathering area with barbecue patio and campfire ring. It's just the basics, but it's everything we need!

Lodging is up to the students with B&B's available nearby, a motel close in Sunsites, and more motel accommodations and amenities in Benson and Wilcox just an easy 30 minutes away (see the list of lodging accommodations below). Make your reservations early! Winter is Arizona's busiest season. Students with RV's and campers have the option of staying right at the OutPost, as there are power and water hook-ups and a bathroom/shower available for your use.
